AB:  Commercial cultivation of the date palm in Gujarat (India) is restricted to the Gulf of Kachchh. Propagation techniques used in this area and other parts of the world are briefly described. Propagation using offshoots is the commonly practised method in Gujarat, but is lengthy and difficult; propagation by seed results in large variability; rejuvenation of mature palms is under investigation; and tissue culture propagation has been successful in many countries.
